Discovering the Essence of CoCoLemon: An RVA Experience

As a teen/young adult, I did not care for my hair the way I should have, and honestly, did not even know where to start.I was guilty of Sun-In, laying outside in my grandma’s backyard, using lemon juice if I couldn’t get to the store for Sun-In. I had a moment in high school, reached for the box dye, and went from my natural blonde to a deep espresso brown. I was not educated on hair health at all. 

I had been seeing my mom’s stylist and when she moved salons, I was left to find my own. I just happened to make an appointment with a newer stylist at that same salon. It was a great fit! I saw her exclusively for over 10 years until she eventually moved to the other side of the country. I honestly considered traveling for my hair needs at that point. My distaste for the airport (and budget) ultimately won and I began my search closer to home.

Trying to find the perfect hair salon and stylist can be an adventure filled with anticipation, excitement, and a lot of uncertainty. However, CoCoLemon in Richmond, Virginia, is like no other. From the moment you step inside, the inviting atmosphere feels welcoming and full of joy.

Located near Willow Lawn, CoCoLemon has a distinct aesthetic that is effortlessly comfortable and warm. Parking is easy, as they have designated spots right out front, reserved for their guests. Stepping through the doors, you're immediately greeted by a space that feels both trendy and cozy—and the warmest welcomes imaginable. There are drinks, snacks, and comfy seating while you wait.

However, it's not just the physical elements that define CoCoLemon; it's the intangible vibes that truly set it apart. The air is alive with an aura of creativity and passion for the art of hairstyling. The stylists themselves are a testament to the salon's ethos—friendly, skilled professionals who are not just experts in their craft but also genuinely invested in making each client feel special. The entire team is a talented group of individual stylists who work seamlessly together, supporting and uplifting each other daily.

I was lucky enough to get an appointment with SarahMarie, one of the co-founders of CoCoLemon, before she closed her books. SarahMarie and Ashley have built such an amazing space and you can feel the love that has been poured into every carefully selected element. I have also had the pleasure of Nick styling my hair and established a plan with Rebecca for my extensions.

My absolute favorite part of this group is they each have their own specialty and have no problem sending you to the person who will be able to give you the best result. There is no selfish, prideful energy–only the ultimate goal of exceeding your expectations and getting you the hair of your dreams!

It can be intimidating and overwhelming searching for a hair stylist. We want someone we can trust, who is knowledgeable, and skilled. We want an environment that feels safe and a business that is in it out of pure passion and love. You find all of that and so much more that can’t be quantified in a blog post. You just have to go see them and experience it yourself.
