What is broadband light photofacial?

BBL Photofacials are light-based skin treatments that improve tone and texture with intense pulsed light. Various wavelengths of light are filtered to react with particular skin conditions, such as sun damage or broken capillaries.

At Rêvée, we perform photofacials with the Sciton Forever Young BBLTM platform. This system delivers the broadest range of wavelengths and photothermal energy, which provides us with a greater ability to customize treatments to each patient.

How does BBL photofacials work?

Forever Young BBL Photofacials are clinically proven to create smoother, more youthful skin by utilizing potent BBL (Broadband Light). Aging affects the dermal layer of the skin in a significant way. In addition to becoming thinner over time, the dermis also loses support due to a decrease in the production of collagen and elastin.

When the wide range of wavelengths permeates the surface of the skin, it stimulates cellular regeneration in the epidermis and the dermis through collagen and elastin proliferation. The creation of minor dermal injury forces the increased production of these vital biological chemicals.

What makes BBL photofacial different from other treatments?

While BBL treatments do not affect the uppermost layer of tissue, the more profound effects within the dermis incite a wound-healing response through which the skin begins to age differently. This is what makes BBL different. In an extensive study, patients who underwent one BBL treatment a year for 5 to 11 years experienced improvements that led evaluators to conclude that participants were ten years younger than their actual age!

Broadband Light Photofacial has been very helpful in the treatment of acne. The shorter wavelengths of BBL, in the blue-light spectrum, attack p-acne bacteria on the surface of the skin and in the sebaceous gland. BBL combined with an at-home skincare routine designed for acne-prone skin will promote significant long-term clearance.

Who are BBL photofacial candidates?

As beneficial as BBL is for most people, it does not solve all of the cosmetic skin problems that may occur. To help patients determine if Forever Young BBL is right for them, we conduct a thorough consultation in which we discuss dermatologic concerns and desired results. Our objective is to provide professional, honest speculation regarding potential treatment plans to achieve those results. To do so, we also consider patient age, skin type, medical background, and other relevant factors.

Forever Young BBL may not be appropriate for individuals with autoimmune disorders,  pregnant or breastfeeding, or whose skin is sun-tanned.

What skin issues can a BBL photofacial improve?

Forever Young BBL Photofacials in Richmond, VAcan improve or diminish:

  • Rosacea
  • Vascular redness
  • Sun damage to the face, chest, back, hands, and arms
  • Small spider veins
  • Broken capillaries

What to expect during the photofacial treatment

Each Forever Young BBL™ Photofacial treatment can last anywhere from 15-60 minutes, depending upon the size of the treatment area.
Before treatment begins, we review the necessary information about the process and answer any questions that may have arisen since your initial consultation. We want our patients to be as comfortable as possible and that they feel confident in their treatment choice.

The patient may be lying down or seated comfortably and after cleansing the skin, we provide protective safety shields to place over the eyes before we begin treating the skin. As intense light is absorbed, the skin may feel slightly warm. Patients may feel short “zaps” in certain areas. We are happy to apply a topical anesthetic before treatment to secure the highest degree of comfort.

How many treatments will I need?

We may recommend a series of 3 to 5 treatments initially to provoke the most robust healing response. This is dependent on the findings of our consultation. When patients begin BBL as a form of “prejuvenation,” we may estimate fewer initial treatments followed by yearly maintenance.

BBL Photofacials for Rosacea

There is no known cause or cure for Rosacea. We do know that BBL does help to improve and treat Rosacea. Typically, after your series of treatments are complete, you will need to do maintenance treatments every 4-6 months.

Recovery after forever young BBL treatment

Most patients experience only mild after-effects from their BBL treatment. These include minor redness and a sunburn sensation that lasts for about a day. Less common side effects include mild bruising and blistering. Usually, patients can return to their normal activities right after treatment.
